Pay it Forward!

April 4, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness.

Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.

~Scott Adams

Today is Pay It Forward Day.

Do a good deed or three, expect nothing in return. Ask them to Pay it Forward when they are able. Repeat.

Imagine what a wonderful place this world would be if we all regularly did good deeds with no expectation of return.

April 4th is Pay It Forward Day

Let’s fill the world with kindness - start today and keep it going, every day.

The Importance of Dreams - Author Matthew Kelly’s Wise Words

March 12, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Here is great way of looking at Dreams - extracted from book review and author interview published at JJL today (details below).

Matthew Kelly explains the importance of dreams:

Taking time to clearly establish and identify our dreams in each of the twelve areas - physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, psychological, professional, material, financial, creative, adventure, legacy, and character - is critical.

We need to take time to dream, then we need to establish a plan to achieve those dreams, and that is where goal setting comes in. But there is no point setting goals, or even achieving goals, if they are the wrong goals. The right goals are those that constantly take us one-step closer to the fulfillment of our dreams… and add value to other people’s lives.

and the power of writing down and sharing your dreams:

Take some time today to sit down and work up a list of your dreams - personally and professionally. Examine your dreams in each of the twelve areas mentioned above. Try to come up with a list of 100 dreams.

Then, begin a conversation with the people in your life about their dreams - your spouse, children, direct reports, colleagues, significant other. Start talking to people about their dreams and have the courage to share some of your dreams with them.

Our natural instinct as human beings is to want to help each other live our dreams. If you tell me your dream is to build your business to five times it size in the next seven years… my instinct is to want to help you with that. If you tell me you want to be in the front row for a U2 concert… my instinct is to want to help make that happen. This does not make me extraordinary, it just makes me human.

When we know the dreams of the people around us, we want to help them live those dreams… and we love the people who helps us identify and accomplish our dreams.

This interview was included in the book review written by Andrew Rondeau. The review of Matthew Kelly’s The Dream Manager was Andrew’s contribution to A Love Affair With Books, being held right through the month of March at Joyful, Jubilant Learning - with a new book review every day!

It does not do to dwell on dreams, Harry, and forget to live.

~Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

Ahhh, wise old Dumbledore - everytime I watch these movies with my kids, I see more of his wisdom. (And yes, it must be about time to read the books again…)

While we are talking about the power of dreams this month, let’s not forget Dumbledore’s words - and remember to live!

What dream will you decide to live today?

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements. While there are many large-scale initiatives, a rich and diverse fabric of local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women’s craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

Escape to luxury and peace in the beautiful Margaret River

Losari Retreat, Margaret River, Western Australia - www.losariretreat.com.au

Losari Reatreat, Margaret River WA

We stayed in a spacious, private villa in January this year for 7 days which is a perfect way to explore Margaret River. Central to wineries and other attractions, Losari was a wonderful peaceful base to return to. With all mod cons such as coffee machine, big TV, DVD etc. and the ability to cook, oh I don’t know, say, live marron or venison from farms close by! Or 5 minutes drive to Margaret River and great restaurants if you don’t feel like cooking.

losari-retreat2-mar08.jpgBeauty treatments come to you and there is a horse riding business on the property. Our favourite part of the day was to sit on the huge verandah (with spa and BBQ) at dusk and watch the ducks, wrens, kookaburras and even a little fox overlooking the beautiful man-made lake.

The owners, Jacky and Greg are delightful and unobtrusive. This stay was peaceful and interesting so for us, it was a real winner. Highly recommended!

Welcome to The Happening Space!

March 3, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Happening Space - pointing you in the right direction! This month, we’re launching a couple of new ’spaces’ here at The Calm Space. The magazine is growing, we’re actively seeking new contributors and there are many new and exciting ‘happenings’ in the works…

Let me introduce you to The Happening Space.

It’s a place where we’ll share news, views, ideas, notes, inspirations and links… anything to do with making your life easier and calmer, really. We’re going to be pointing you in the right direction…

Unlike the rest of the magazine, which has a monthly format - the Happening Space will be a ‘whenever’ thing. We’ll share stuff whenever we’ve got something to share! We think this will be weekly, or possibly more often, and whilst often it will relate directly to our theme of the month, sometimes it won’t.

Don’t you just love the poetry and clarity of that? Hmmm…

As you are a loyal reader of ours (or even if you’ve just popped in for the first time), I’d love to have YOUR views, news, excitements, tips or links. Please contact me directly.

I cannot promise we’ll use it, but I can promise we’ll look at it, and you will get a response from me. [And if you don't get a response within a week or so, your mail probably got caught in that oh-so-efficient spam filter. Try again or phone me!]
